Emak Kerry Okspod keturunan Keling.

  4. Ku Nan: Umno has up to next April to hold elections
    Bernama | May 19, 2018
Tengku Adnan says the Registrar of Societies has agreed to the extension of time under the party’s constitution.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan says the party was granted an extension in October last year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has until April next year to conduct elections to its Supreme Council and branch and divisional committees, party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.

He said the extension of time had been granted by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) last year, and the decision had been made by referring to Article 10.16 of the party’s constitution.

“The clause allows the postponement of elections at the Supreme Council level within a period of not more than 18 months from the date it was supposed to be held on April 30, 2018,” he said in a statement today.

Tengku Adnan said Umno received RoS approval of the extension of the election in a letter dated Oct 31, 2017.

Tengku Adnan said that in line with the RoS decision, the Umno Supreme Council had set the date of its annual convention and that of its Youth and Puteri wings from today until June 10.

He said Umno divisional meetings will be held on June 30, adding that the meetings will be conducted simultaneously with party elections at all levels.

    1. Something doesn't add up in that approval by ROS. The last party election was 19th October 2013. According to its constitution, election to be held every 3 years, that's latest on 19th October 2016. However, an extension of 18 months rightly in accordance to the constitution was decided, putting the last date to be 19th of April 2018. That's what the constitution says, period.

The ROS DG was said to approve another extension beyond what is allowed by UMNO's own constitution. Does she has the authority to do that? Was she pressured to do that under pressure from the then Minister of Home Affairs? She certainly has a lot of explanation to make on what is seemed as an abuse of authority. Perhaps its wise on her part to withdraw the approval.

    2. Nyata Tun Dr Mahathir ada kuasa supaya Umno di deregistered or not.

  5. Rosmah: Henti bocor gambar serbuan di media sosial
    FMT Reporters | May 19, 2018

  7. Strong support for petition amid concerns over incoming minister’s Salafist leanings
    FMT Reporters | May 19, 2018
Over 40,000 people have signed a petition urging Dr Mahathir to hold the education portfolio, just hours after he named Maszlee Malik for the post.

A petition to reinstate Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the education minister is fast reaching its target, less than 24 hours after it was launched.

PETALING JAYA: The naming of a former academic as the new education minister has not gone down well with critics and rights activists, many of whom point to his leanings to Salafist Islam, the version of Islam similar to the one practised in Saudi Arabia that has inspired a host of controversial laws.

Critics have also raised concerns over Maszlee Malik’s past statements speaking out against non-Sunni followers, in line with the stand by Islamic authorities in Malaysia.

Some have expressed disappointment with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision to give up the education portfolio.

An online petition that was started yesterday evening among others said Mahathir was the best man for the job, saying he would “bring much needed reforms to the education system in this country”.

Within less than 24 hours, the petition on change.org is fast reaching its target of 50,000 signatures, with over 40,000 signing it as at 1pm today.

Mahathir had initially named himself as the education minister, but was criticised for breaking a Pakatan Harapan (PH) promise that the prime minister would not hold any other portfolio.

“I cannot break (the promise) at the moment, unless of course there is a demand that I take up the education portfolio,” he said yesterday in announcing Maszlee as the replacement.

In the May 9 polls, Maszlee won the Simpang Renggam seat in Johor, beating Barisan Nasional’s Liang Teck Meng.

But there have been concerns that Maszlee, a lecturer at the International Islamic University before joining PPBM last March, had in the past sympathised with Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik, who is wanted in India over allegations of money laundering and extremism.

Known for his speeches critical of Hinduism and Christianity, Naik was granted permanent residence status by the previous government, sparking outrage among non-Muslim and civil groups who said his presence was a threat to religious harmony.

But he has received support from Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who is also closely associated with Maszlee.

    1. Close to Perlis mufti

Maszlee was part of the Perlis fatwa committee when Asri first held the post some ten years ago.

Asri and his Perlis mufti department have come under scrutiny from a Human Rights Commission of Malaysia’s (Suhakam) panel hearing into the case of missing Perlis activist Amri Che Mat, after the mufti was accused by Amri’s wife for harrassing her family for adhering to Shia Islam, which Asri had condemned as a threat to national security.

Maszlee Malik (right), in this photo taken in 2014 with former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim and Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin. (Facebook pic)

“After my own experience of listening to Maszlee Malik, that liberals should really look past his smiling, articulate facade. He is after all a close brother in arms of the Perlis Mufti, who is yet another hardliner pretending to be ‘moderate’,” activist Sheryll Stothard, who has been helping Amri’s family in the Suhakam probe, wrote on Facebook.

Vocal lawyer Siti Kassim, who is also involved in the Suhakam probe, was more hard-hitting, describing Maszlee as an intolerant Muslim who portrays himself as “accommodating and open”.

“His stand is not acceptance but tolerance. Maybe that is enough for some people but when people talk about tolerating a necessary evil and they are referring to marginalised communities and non-Muslims. The line should be drawn there,” she said on her Facebook.

“He considers Muslim like me as sesat (deviant).”

Attempts by FMT to get Maszlee’s response were in vain, and calls to him were cut short.

  8. Will the Mahathir-Anwar partnership work?
    May 19, 2018
Only time will tell if they can retain the past glory, or go down the 1998 way again.
    COMMENT

    Reuters pic

    By Mizan Mazlan

A week after carrying Pakatan Harapan across the GE14 finish line, Dr Mahathir Mohamad successfully released his one-time ally, Anwar Ibrahim from prison – though, till today, many strongly believed that it was the devious work of the former that landed the latter in prison in the first place.

I was and still, am not entirely convinced of what exactly Anwar was guilty of, ranging from sexual misconduct to treason and to corruption. The majority would like to believe that Anwar was a prisoner of a political conspiracy to bring him down – as proven by his “timely” arrest during a gloomy economic period for the country back in 1998.

Some even suggested that Anwar’s downfall started in 1993 after he won the Umno Deputy President post, beating the late Ghafar Baba. Anwar, with his charisma and ability to mobilise followers just by the sheer tenacity of his words – was seen as a protégé who rose quickly up the ranks and transformed into a legitimate contender to succeed Mahathir, and it is safe to assume the latter was made known of this and got the former grounded.

As a result, PKR was founded on April 4, 1999 with the logo symbolising Anwar’s black eye, the same logo that Pakatan Harapan used to win the recently concluded elections.

    Moral grounds

As Mahathir began to criticise and condemn his once protégé Najib Razak’s administration due to abuses of power and financial scandals in managing the government-owned 1MDB back in 2015, PH saw an opportunity to engage Mahathir into leading the coalition to topple Najib – with both sides making it very clear this is their ultimate goal.

Many will never forget the ugly and damaging events that occurred between Mahathir and the political party he leads now – with profanities and personal attacks being thrown around as we’ve never seen it before.

I fully understand the term “let bygones be bygones” but I only question the moral action and responsibility of these people who arguably has spat directly in the face of the rakyat with their allegiance to a man once they called the “Maha-Firaun” and “Maha-Zalim”.

The deal was simple and straightforward enough; (1) topple Najib Razak, (2) release Anwar from prison with a royal pardon, (3) transfer prime minister’s power to Anwar.

Now that the first two steps have been achieved, what about the third? Mahathir has stated that he will stay on as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister for a year or two – much to the delight of his many followers. Anwar has also stated that he will not rush back into politics as he does not want to be seen to be hasty to demand or insist for the prime minister post – a true act of class and unselfishness.

    1. Kajang 2.0?

In order for Anwar to become Malaysia’s eighth prime minister, he will have to contest and win a parliamentary seat of his own choosing and liking. An easier way would be for one of any PKR MPs to vacate his/her seat to allow him to contest in a by-election (did anyone say Kajang Move 2.0?).

I for one am not a fan of such political strategy that requires an elected representative to resign with just cause to make way for another – I believe that it is a direct betrayal of voters in the constituency just to fulfil an individual’s personal ambition. Also, in my opinion, those who dwell in such acts are merely making fun of our democratic process and it is a direct slap in the voters’ face.

Let the failures of the Kajang Move in 2014 be a lesson to all. Many regard that it was conceived not to address Selangor’s problems but purely to consolidate the power of certain groups.

Now, imagine this same political strategy to occur at the highest end of the country’s government and the dire repercussions of it.

      Bapa Pembangunan-Bapa Reformasi partnership

The arguments for both sides of the perspective are:

      1. For an optimist, Mahathir and Anwar have put “everything” behind them to save the country together.
      2. For a pessimist, things will turn sour down the road and plenty of “political backstabbing” will occur as it was before.

All my life, I’ve been taught to look at things positively, no matter how dubious it might sound or appear – but I’ve also been taught to always forgive but never forget, which acts as a personal reminder to me not to get easily carried away with things.

Forgive me if I don’t share the excitement such as the majority are feeling towards the pair just yet. I have my doubts and it is well documented.

As social media raves on the “comeback kings” pairing of Mahathir-Anwar, I hope, and I believe the majority of my fellow Malaysians will agree with me that a justifiable and concrete explanation from Mahathir is required to completely bury the hatchet, as they say.
Malaysians have the right to know the truth, even if its coupled with a political backlash.

The worrying thought of these two turning on each other still lingers in the minds of the politically aware citizens.

The same cannot be said about those who are painting a beautiful picture of these two, as the saying goes, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Only time will tell if this partnership will retain its early glory days or will it go down the drains again like what happened in 1998. The former seems more preferred and ideal.

With that, all the best to both prominent leaders of our time. God knows how much Malaysia needs you to be at your best.

Penang PKR has defended Penanti assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin’s criticism that the state executive councillor lineup.

In agreeing with her, Dato’ Mansor Othman said the power within the component parties in Pakatan Harapan should be shared equally.

Mansor expressed hope that the PH presidential council will re-look the matter seriously.

Penang Chief Minister and state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow, when contacted, declined to comment on the matter.

  17. THE THIRD FORCE

Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak isn’t just your everyday Joe.

Apart from his royal ancestry that traces all the way to Pahang, he is one of the state’s Four Noblemen by virtue of his inherited title, Orang Kaya Indera Shahbandar. His father was the nation’s second Prime Minister and man responsible for the birth of Barisan Nasional, a permutation of disparate political parties that came together following Parti Perikatan’s dismal performance during the 1969 general election.

    His death was untimely.

The national outpouring of grief that followed led to Najib’s election as Member of Parliament (MP) at the ripe age of 23. Then, a year after Dr Mahathir Mohamad took over the reins of government, he got the son of Razak appointed the eleventh Menteri Besar of Pahang. It is said that the ruler of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, was so pleased with the appointment that he didn’t object to the controversial bill of reforms Mahathir tabled in parliament the year after.

So you see, Najib’s appointment as Menteri Besar may have paved the way for major reforms to the Federal Constitution. The next few years saw him climb the political ladder in ways only Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim could parallel. After having served several important ministries, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister under Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s watch before being sworn in as Prime Minister in 2009. With such credentials, his wealth probably runs into the tens of millions and could possibly even have exceeded the 100 million mark.

So tell me, what did you folks expect the police to find when they raided his Taman Duta home?

    Chapati and Kurma Kambing?

Not only is the whole business of raiding homes in the wee hours of the morning ridiculous, it serves only to cast stigmas that may be disproportionate to the gravity of any given situation. Taking into account Najib’s standing in the public eye, it is only proper for authorities to treat his case with extreme care until such a time that they have legitimate reason to believe a crime was committed. Until then, it is best for the police to come clean on the error in their judgement, an error that led to all the early morning and late night raids.

And while they’re at it, perhaps the people can be told what was discovered in the 20-year old safe that they spent hours upon hours drilling on Thursday. According to a reliable source, that safe had nothing in it but antique collectibles that included ‘ancient’ RM50 and 500 notes. The notes were probably of sentimental value to Najib the same way the ancient RM1 note I have in my possession is of value to me. Question is, was my source feeding me legitimate info, or was I being fed delicious Chapatti and Kurma Kambing from Najib’s house?

    Perhaps it was fish curry?

  18. Najib seeks witness protection, says life at risk
    May 19, 2018 Raggie Jessy

Dato’ Seri Najib Razak lodged a report yesterday at the Sentul police headquarters, seeking witness protection in the ongoing probe into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad-related (1MDB) scandal.

He told police his life was at risk.

Najib claimed in the report that through his sources, it was learnt that the threats are not only from within the country, but also overseas.

In the report, Najib further stated that police had raided three premises at Pavillion Tower here and seized jewellery, cash and other personal belongings that he claimed was donations meant for Barisan Nasional’s election campaign.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak told police yesterday that his life is at risk and asked to be put under witness protection in the ongoing probe into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad-related (1MDB) scandal.

Najib lodged a report yesterday at the Sentul police headquarters at 5pm. In the police report sighted by Malay Mail, Najib had said that there was a clear threat on his life and his family members and made a formal request to be placed under the witness protection.

Najib claimed in the report that through his sources, it was learnt that the threats are not only from within the country, but also overseas.

It was learnt that the threats were from people who were directly and indirectly linked to 1MDB funds internationally.

In his report, he said police officers from Bukit Aman’s commercial crime unit had first turned up at his residence on the night of May 10, just a day after the 14th general election (GE14).

He said the police officers were at his residence for 18 hours and seized items belonging to him and his son which had nothing to do with 1MDB.

In the report, Najib further stated that police had raided three premises at Pavillion Tower here and seized jewellery, cash and other personal belongings that he claimed was given to him by his friends.

He also stated that the cash was actually donations meant for Barisan Nasional’s election campaign.

Najib also said the investigators who raided his properties linked to him failed to provide him with a list of items that were taken.

The former PM stated that he had at all times only played an advisory role in 1MDb and was not involved in the decision-making process.

He said the decisions on 1MDB deals were made by the board of directors and the management.

In the police report, he also claimed the RM2.6 billion he received was merely a donation from the Saudi royal family.

In the last few days, police raids have been carried out at the Prime Minister’s Office in Perdana Putra, as well as private properties linked to the Pekan MP, including the Taman Duta mansion where he and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor are currently living, and two luxury condominium units at Block A and B of the Pavillion Residences in Kuala Lumpur.

Najib is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLATFA) 2001.

Najib and Rosmah have been blacklisted from leaving the country by the Immigration Department, but are free to travel anywhere domestically.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reopened investigations into the multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal after returning to the office he vacated 15 years ago after winning the May 9 general election. But he said any action taken will be by the book.

  19. Two petitions on who gets to be Education Minister
    May 19, 2018 Raggie Jessy

Two online petitions that surfaced appears to back two different candidates for the position of Minister of Education.

One calling for Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be given the post, has garnered over 51,000 signatures, while the second, which is in support of Education Minister designate Dr Maszlee Malik, is trailing close behind with over 38,000 signatures.

Dr Mahathir took on the Education Portfolio on Thursday but was forced to drop it the next day as it was revealed that Pakatan Harapan manifesto disallowed the prime minister from holding two ministerial portfolios.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two separate online petitions have been registered on change.org in the past 24 hours backing two different candidates for the position of Education Minister.

The first petition, which calls for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be given the post, has garnered over 51,000 signatures.

While the second petition, which is in support of Education Minister designate Dr Maszlee Malik is trailing close behind with over 38,000 signatures.

“The petition for Dr Mahathir to be the minister hopes to send clear message to the government that the rakyat values education reforms. We are confident with Dr Mahathir’s ability to bring much needed change to the education system in the country,” said the petition writer Raveen Dev.

At noon yesterday he thanked supporters for helping him accomplish more than 30,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.

Shanmugasunthari Krishnaswamy who pledged for the campaign said “I need changes as a teacher…He is the best.”

While Peter Sekar Peter who may have been referring to Dr Mahathir stint as Education Minister in the 1970s said that the latter had vast experience in the field.

“He wants to set a good foundation for the future of the nation. Tun Mahathir will make sure that there is delivery,” he added.

Meanwhile Elizabeth Gan said that “Tun Dr Mahathir has the right vision to change the education system in Malaysia and let’s hope for a brighter future for the next generation.”

Noorizan Abdulmajid said that “we want a qualified person for the job and from his CV I am sure he is.”

“Trust Tun Mahathir on his choice,” she added.

Aizat J agreed that fresh leaders were needed to make our system as good as the standards of countries such as Sweden and nurture talents.

While Hafizah Mustapha wrote that she believed the new minister was the man for the job.

The petition writer Nurul Fitrah Marican who registered the campaign 12 hours ago cited that the PPBM Simpang Renggam member of parliament was a senior fellow to the think-tank IDEAS and a prominent speaker on political movements and Islamic politics.

He also has a PhD from Durham University in the United Kingdom.

While Maszlee’s appointment raised eyebrows from those who critised him for his alleged support of Zakir Naik’s views DAP MP Ong Kian Meng has rushed to his defence.

“The task facing Dr. Maszlee is immense. Let’s help him by giving him suggestions on how we can improve our education system rather than judging him based on a superficial reading of who he is and what he represents,” he said on his official Facebook page.

Dr Mahathir took on the Education Portfolio on Thursday but was forced to drop it the next day as it was revealed that Pakatan Harapan manifesto disallowed the prime minister from holding two ministerial portfolios.

He said that he would like to hold the post but would not do so unless there was demand for him to take the post up. Later that day Maszlee was named the Education Minister, designate.

  20. THE THIRD FORCE

Following are pre-electoral manifesto breaches by the newly minted Pakatan Harapan government, along with inconsistencies and questionable decisions made by the government in the first five days since the 14th general election (GE14) concluded:

    1. Backtracked on pledge to repeal Anti Fake News Act 2018. The government announced instead that the Act will be studied and possibly amended

    2. Backtracked on Lim Kit Siang’s 2009 EXPRESSION OF DISGUST, in which the senior Lim referred to the culture of party hopping as “a betrayal of the people’s trust.”

    3. Breach of constitutional and human rights in imposing travel ban on Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, two individuals who have yet to be charged in any court of law with committing crimes.

    4. Allowing Lim Guan Eng, whose credibility is tainted following charges preferred against him on counts of corruption, to handle the country’s finances in an official capacity.

    5. Selective persecution of Najib and Rosmah. This is made manifest when one considers that Guan Eng and Dato’ Seri Shafie Apdal, both of whom have been charged with committing crimes, are free to travel anywhere they wish.

    6. Implying without evidence that corruption may have paved the way for a BN government in Sabah.

    7. Failure to publically stipulate the exact terms and conditions under which the “Council of Elders” function, particularly since their roles overlap extensively with other ministerial functions already clearly defined under existing acts.

    8. Backtracking on China’s One-Road-One-Belt projects, including the ECRL.

    9. Pahang MB and BN government have yet to be sworn in despite it being five days since the election concluded.

    10. Decision to announce a Special Task Force (STF) into 1MDB, but failure to announce similar task forces into other matters of public interest, including the Memali massacre, the Perwaja debacle, MAS losses, the use of Petronas to bail out companies belonging to Mahathir’s cronies, Daim Zainuddin’s untold wealth and the billions accumulated by Mahathir and his children.

    11. Fake News by the mainstream media, including one announcing that GST will be abolished effective the 1st of June 2018

Setting aside the religious aspects of fasting during the month of Ramadan, the one-month religious obligation for Muslims brings out certain positive aspects in nation-building. The breaking of fast during Ramadan is done on a communal basis where family and friends get together to break their fast. Seldom do people ‘eat on the run’ like how our normally busy schedule dictates where we have no time to sit and eat or even eat together.

The breaking of the fast reminds families about the enjoyment of sharing a feast with loved ones. Friends and colleagues, whether Muslims or otherwise, socialise and strengthen their ties, which they would not do if not because of the fast. There is no better way of keeping those bonds strong than sitting together to enjoy a meal and the pleasure of each other’s company.

Malaysia is a plural society and when those of all ethnicities and religious persuasions are able to mingle and socialise, even during a religious tradition, then we can be assured of strong inter-ethnic relations and stability. Ramadan offers that opportunity for Malaysians to demonstrate they are Malaysians when they come together at the dining table because food, to Malaysians, is a uniting factor.

The only constant thing in life is change. That in itself as a contradiction because if it is constant then it does not change. And it is not easy to accept change because humans by nature are resistant to change. Most would like to take the path of least resistance like a meandering river finding its way to the sea. But one cannot avoid change just like one cannot avoid death. Eventually it comes for all of us.

Of course, change may not always be for the better but it comes nevertheless. What used to be the great empires of Greece, Portugal, Spain, Rome and so on today hang in the balance on the verge of collapse. One thing for sure, though, is that all the great empires now lost will never become great empires again. Once it is gone it is gone for good.

We need to embrace change when it comes because resisting it is like resisting the tide, a futile exercise. And we need to give it time to prove whether that change is good or bad. And if it is bad then the agent of change will yet again bring about change. But that change will never revert to what used to be because what used to be would no longer be there. That is the downside of change.

In sha ALLAH kita boleh bangkit semula,” katanya.

    Laporan: Najib dakwa nyawanya terancam
    Diterbitkan 19 Mei 2018, 8:29 malam

Obscene.

Tapi tugas dia bukan main banyak. Tak boleh siap dalam 1-2 tahun. Tak boleh nampak kesan. Contoh nya, nak hilangkan imej kedaulatan Malaysia terjejas sebab Najib jual tanah, kasi projek itu ini kpd China.

Jugak, nak tengok kesan Dasar Ekonomi Baru. Najib ketepikan nya. Aku harap Tun giatkan semula. Rakyat nak tengok berapa peratus naik lagi. Takkan 1-2 tahun boleh nampak kesan. Jabatan Perangkaan nak hitung dan kira saja pun dah berapa lama bahru siap.
